Mission Statement

CLUE-SB’s Criminal Justice Workgroup advocates to eliminate causes of criminal injustice in our County, advance humane treatment of people enmeshed in our criminal justice system, secure improved monitoring of services provided in the jail healthcare contract, and prioritize community-based alternatives to reduce the need for law enforcement intervention.

Who We Are

We advocate to improve justice outcomes for people harmed by our criminal justice system. We seek to improve public safety by reducing returns to jail, promoting humane jail conditions, prioritizing safe community-based rehabilitation, and ensuring fair legal representation from initial arrest. We network with faith communities, other organizations, and County criminal justice leaders to advance transformative improvements. Our advocacy has helped shift resources from building more jail beds to increasing community-based treatment alternatives. We advocate to help stabilize vulnerable people exiting jail, for community Response Teams that prioritize treatment rather than jail for those in mental health crisis, and for Freedom to Choose – a personal development program for jail residents.
