A Vigil and a Call for Change
Join us Saturday, January 29, 2022 – 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse (front entry on 1100 Anacapa Street)
We need jails that are safe and humane. A call for justice and compassion.
COME KEEP VIGIL
We lament the death of a man incarcerated in Santa Barbara’s Jail on January 12.
We lament the out-of-control spread of Covid in the jail.
We lament any lack of humane treatment of people in jail.
We lament the burden on health care workers.
We call for the following changes now:
- Safely reduce jail numbers.
- Ensure alternative placements for mental health.
- Ensure that full assessment teams are available 24 hours a day to evaluate each person entering the jails after arrest, determining whether the person needs to be in jail, or in treatment, or released.
- Support our community with discharge planning for each person incarcerated in order to have a successful release and re-entry.
COME HOLD THE LIGHT TOGETHER FOR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, FATHERS AND MOTHERS, NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS.
To keep everyone safe, we ask that everyone mask and space, be fully vaccinated or test negative before attending.
Speakers include formerly incarcerated people, family of people incarcerated, clergy, & advocates for change.
